Saul and Familiar Spirits

1 Samuel 28:3

Now Samuel was dead, and all Israel had lamented him, and buried him in Ramah, even in his own city. And Saul had put away those that had familiar spirits, and the wizards, out of the land.

This reminds me of the faith of man today. It looks like Saul was doing the will of God in this above verse.

But look here at this verse:

1 Samuel 28:5And when Saul saw the host of the Philistines, he was afraid, and his heart greatly trembled.

Scriptures always says: God will protect us and we should not be afraid of anything.

But Saul was scared and trembled greatly at all the Philistines that had gathered. His faith and trust in God had gone. Shame.

Most people today have no faith in God and turn away from God.

“(For we walk by faith, not by sight:)” — 2 Corinthians 5:7 (KJV).

Look what God did!

And when Saul enquired of the LORD, the LORD answered him not, neither by dreams, nor by Urim, nor by prophets.” — 1 Samuel 28:6 (KJV)

I believe that God did not answer Saul is because God knew the intentions of Saul’s heart.

Then said Saul unto his servants, Seek me a woman that hath a familiar spirit, that I may go to her, and enquire of her. And his servants said to him, Behold, there is a woman that hath a familiar spirit at Endor.

And Saul disguised himself, and put on other raiment, and he went, and two men with him, and they came to the woman by night: and he said, I pray thee, divine unto me by the familiar spirit, and bring me him up, whom I shall name unto thee.

Saul wanted a witch to get for him what he wanted. And look how quick he turned his back on God to seek guidance from a witch.

Now, Saul wanted guidance from Samuel that had died. So he wanted an answer from flesh and bones and not God.
